Clair's Farewell Address

It’s hard to believe that I have been with the Center for almost a year now! Time has flown! It has certainly been an informative year. Before setting foot in the Center for Interprofessional Education and Research, I had very little understanding of what interprofessional education and collaborative practice were and the roles these initiatives play in the improvement of healthcare education, training, and practice. However, with my background in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, it quickly became apparent that these two worlds overlapped and could be used conjunctively to enhance our healthcare education and practice systems. I have truly enjoyed this opportunity to break out of the psychology bubble and work with other professionals from all different backgrounds in order to push interprofessional initiatives forward. Sadly, all good things must come to an end! Luckily, the partnership between IPE and I/O Psychology doesn’t have to end as Eileen Toomey, another I/O Psychology student, will be taking my place starting in August.

As for me, I will be moving on to Clinton, MO, a small town an hour southeast of Kansas City, MO. I will be adjunct teaching at Rockhurst University in their Psychology Department, where I will be teaching a section of Intro to Psychology. Additionally, not all SLU and CIER ties will be severed as I will be adjunct teaching for Dr. Hinyard as I take over the Health Outcomes Measurement course this Fall. Of course, there is still that pesky dissertation I have to get out of the way so I will be working on that as well. All of these efforts are part of my continued pursuit to find my own spot in the academic world as a professor and researcher. Finally, most importantly and the biggest reason for my move, I will be getting married in October to my fiancé, Steve Kueny!! Although he has been nothing but supportive these 3 years I have been at SLU, he is definitely glad that I can finally join him out in Clinton!

I would like to give a very special thank you to Dr. David Pole and Dr. Leslie Hinyard for all of their support and guidance this last year! They are both extremely hard workers and crazy busy, but they are also always available to lend an ear or a hand when things get tough. Also, I would like to thank Anna, Erin, Stephen, and yes, even you Jimmy ;) for making the office a fun and enjoyable place to work! I will miss all of you, but don’t worry, I’ll be back to visit! :)
